out with the old.

These are my old scriptures (I am amazed that I have never named them). My parents bought them for me when I was 15 years old. Thus, they have survived almost an entire decade, but they have not done so in one piece. My name has worn off, there are tears, sticky pages from spills, ridiculous notations, pages falling out... they are a mess.
Below, is my new set of scriptures (yes, I have some attachment issues, as they are the same exact style as my last).  I bought this set 2 years ago. But I have not been able to bring myself to use them yet. They have sat on my bookshelf unadulterated, day after day, while I continue to use Quad 1 (no, I have not just accessed a name, it is solely for the differentiating purposes of this post)
While they are so pristine and smooth and they still have that ineffable "new book smell" and have all their pages in tact, I cannot stand using them!! When I open Quad 1, the pages look like this:
But when I open my Quad 2, the pages look like this:
They feel so foreign, yet the words are the same. I have yet to bring them to church or institute because I feel so ill cognizant without my loving, familiarity of Quad 1.

So a few lessons are being implemented from this recent undertaking (with minimal whining, of course).
1. learning my scriptures better, not the books, but the actual scriptures (this would behoove me for my spiritual welfare more than my own neurotic need for the habitual)
2. learning to let go of stuff just because it makes me comfortable when newer and more valuable experiences and insights could await me (though I am not ready to apply this lesson to everything in my closet or emotional baggage quite yet, "baby steps, bob").
3. Stop reading at breakfast and spilling on them (I am not even a sloppy eater, but in the morning my motor skills seem to be a bit evanescent).
4. buy one scripture marker and pen (though the rainbow effect is cute).

I'm so glad to hear that someone else had a problem using their new scriptures. I got a new quad a while back but I couldn't let go of the scriptures I received as a gift when I was baptized 12 years ago. It just wasn't the same even thought the words were the same.
