Two Things

I have two new obsessions!! The first is Sushi. Now all racial commentary aside, I seriously love and crave sushi. I went on a date with a guy and we had what I thought was sushi. Turns out, it was something completely different and nothing short of disgusting. But now that my little eyes have been opened up to the world of wasabi, rice, tempura...pure raw fish goodness. This has become a Tuesday tradition for a group of us and it is one that I intend on keeping.

The second activity that is consuming my spare time is reading. Reading is something that I have always loved. It has just always been a challenge for me to prioritize it into my life appropriately. I get sucked into books so deeply that I start to forget reality and I can't stop reading! I just finished a well known book called The Four Agreements by Miguel Ángel Ruiz. It was a rather short and simplistic read, however, it brought on some very deep introspection. I had no choice but to really reflect on my own life, my ways of thinking and how I can improve them for the future...so much that it took me quite a bit of time to finish. I do highly recommend the book to anyone! Then the other day I went on a search for a book to get lost in. A couple of friends were telling my about Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. I went to Barnes and Noble (of course) to look into it. It is huge. So I ordered it on half.com and it should be here any day now. But in the meantime, I did pick up ANOTHER book. This book is called Ethics for the New Millennium by The Dalai Lama. I have not been able to put it down. Yes, I always do this with books, but this particular piece of literature is truly grasping. It is packed with clear, concise, down to earth inspiration. All bases are covered. He leaves no room for argument. Maslow's theory tells us that there are fundamental needs that must be met in order for life to be sustained. All of those needs are placed in a hierarchy based upon their need and what they will effect. In this book, the Dalai Lama is essentially presenting the world with the same theory. Mapping out where our ethical foundations really lie and what we need realize in order to change, where and how to have the great effect of NO MORE SUFFERING. Anyway, I am rambling...but trust me, so far, so good.

Sushi, inner peace, Dalai Lama...Apparently I am not living on the right continent right now....
