today was one of goodbyes. i said goodbye to school (took my last final) and i said goodbye to my friends leaving for summer sales and internships. this happens every year. it should be nothing new. but i am always a little sad to see them off. obviously, i survive the months alone, but not without a bit of a wistful longing for my closest friends.
when you go away for a summer it is great to really immerse yourself in your new surroundings and try new things but everyone needs that soft place to land from time to time. so whether that be a phone call or a skype date, it is just nice to know that someone is there.
i love my late night calls when they phone to tell me about their day and have someone to talk to on their long drives back home every night. there are always funny stories to share, frustrations to vent about, moments of silence when it is just nice to know that a friend is on the other end caring about you, and then the, "ok...well i am home now." and we all can go to sleep comforted and happy.
here we go again.
